online learning is very important. Research has shown that online students with
active parent involvement are likely to earn good grades, enroll in advanced
classes, have good attendance record, have better social skills and likely to
graduate and move to postsecondary education. Some of the parents’ roles and
functions are:
- Become familiar with curriculum
- teach and model good time-management strategies
- teach your child the basic computer skills
- follow your child’s progress in his/her classes by login to the portal or checking in with his teachers; do this periodically
- provide a place of study with no or little distraction around

The role of a
facilitator is to guide and support an online study group of learners. His/her
roles and functions include
- follow and support student progress in the course
- facilitate discussion of a study group
- provides feedback as students complete activities
The role and functions of the student
- need to have all the necessary computer skills that is required to successfully complete the course
- be willing to participate with the teacher and students online
- complete assignments, quizzes, and any other assigned work on due dates
- contact your teacher and/or facilitator in advance as sometimes responses could take 48 hours if not more
